Eva Schueller, known to friends and clients as Evi, has over fifteen years of experience navigating the most challenging commercial litigation cases and corporate investigations. Her expertise spans a wide array of industries, from tech and telecommunications to cryptocurrency and consumer goods, and she has a knack for handling high-stakes matters for clients ranging from cutting-edge companies and government entities to individuals. Her impressive track record includes successes in federal and state courts, as well as various arbitral and cross-border forums.
Before joining Illovsky Gates & Calia LLP, Evi honed her skills at DLA Piper LLP, where she managed high-profile cases and complex investigations. Her career also includes serving as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General of the Civil Division at the U.S. Department of Justice, where she tackled healthcare fraud, assessed the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act, and probed the role of ratings agencies in the 2008 financial crisis. As an Alameda County Deputy County Counsel, Evi successfully defended County agencies in contentious constitutional litigation and provided guidance on complex statutory compliance issues.
After clerking for Chief Judge Mary M. Schroeder of the Ninth Circuit, Evi began her law practice at Morrison & Foerster LLP, where she defended against securities class actions and wire fraud, data misuse, and campaign finance violations. Known for her strategic insight and ability to demystify complex legal concepts, Evi is dedicated to understanding her clients’ unique needs and delivering tailored, practical solutions.
Her diverse background includes legal consulting for a human rights organization in Cambodia, where she supported local attorneys with international tribunal submissions and investigated labor trafficking and supply chain issues for over two years. Evi is also committed to pro bono work, and recently obtained a reversal and remand in her client’s favor in the appeal of a civil rights case before the Ninth Circuit. Evi brings native fluency in Hungarian, along with Spanish proficiency. With a rich blend of global experience and local expertise, Evi offers a fresh and dynamic approach to legal challenges.
